Preventing violence against staff: A Good Practice Guide for Retailers 4 August 2011 The definition of violence which is used by the Health and Safety Executive is: “Any incident in which a person is abused, threatened, or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work.” This is a wide definition and is intended to make it clear that staff do not have to tolerate assault, verbal violence, threats, intimidation or abuse as a part of their employment.
