Monitored security

To help reduce crime against small businesses, AABC has worked with a security provider to develop our Monitored Security service through which BCRPs can assist their local SME (whether members or not) to improve their security and reduce crime and the effects of crime. Many smaller businesses (shops, offices and industrial units) either have no security alarms at all or ‘bells only’ alarms, which do not qualify for a police response. In many cases these limitations will also mean that the business may not be able to obtain adequate insurance cover. Insurers know that installation of a monitored alarm system reduces burglary and consequent business losses.

The Monitored range also has a built-in lone worker alert application and upgrades for smoke and flood/leak detection to minimise risk from these major events. It has been designed to offer a professional security system which is affordable to all businesses.

The requirements associated with a police response alarm system and the associated costs of installation, monitoring and and maintenance can run into several thousand pounds. The AABC system is designed for keyholder response and is far less costly than a police response alarm over the same period of time whilst not compromising in any way its effectiveness. The alarms are approved to EN 50131, are installed by approved SSAIB installers and are monitored by a Nacoss approved alarm receiving centre which will inform the keyholder of any activation. AABC has confirmed that the systems do not conflict with ACPO alarms policy.

The security programme can also help to support your BCRP and allow you to develop additional services for your members. To find out more about how the Monitored Security system can help your local businesses and your BCRP, click on the BCRU logo on the left of this page.

Guidance and advice on databases and handling of personal and sensitive data

As new systems, which may not have sought the benefit of guidance from the ICO, present themselves to BCRPs as solutions to data sharing, it is important that they ascertain their suitability before committing themselves financially or facing difficulties of data compliance in the future.
