Membership benefits


Membership of AABC is open to all business crime reduction partnerships which have achieved the Safer Business Award or are actively working towards it. The Safer Business Award is the nationally recognised standard for BCRPs which shows that they are operating lawfully, in accordance with the Data Protection Act and with other good practice developed by AABC which have been designed to promote effective partnership work.

AABC provides a national focus for business crime reduction partnerships.  This helps to give the work of BCRPs a higher profile through areas such as: 

  • Membership of the National Retail Crime Steering Group, chaired by the Home Office Minister
  • Work with ACPO business crime lead to develop a business crime strategy for the police based on accredited BCRPs
  • Establishment and recognition of AABC county and regional BCRP groups
  • Providing a link to national retailers
  • Developing a vocational qualificatiuon for BCRP crime managers and other persons engaged in business crime reduction (police, security staff, community safety managers etc.)

Members of AABC are entitled to a number of membership benefits provided by AABC including:

  • Assistance to member partnerships to achieve the Safer Business Award, including documentation and help from one of our managers
  • Help with the Safer Business Award re-accreditation process
  • Access to all the information on the members' only pages of the AABC website. These provide legal and data protection guidance, partnership good practice, relevant Home Office and other publications

Guidance and advice on databases and handling of personal and sensitive data

With the emergence of new databases with the ability to disseminate personal and sensitive data, AABC has sought advice and guidance from the Information Commissioner's Office to ensure that BCRPs are able to make reasoned and informed decisions concerning the purchase, operation and management of databases, including access by third party users. As new systems, which may not have sought the benefit of guidance from the ICO, present themselves to BCRPs as solutions to data sharing, it is important that they ascertain their suitability before committing themselves financially or facing difficulties of data compliance in the future. Safer Socialising Award re-launched

AABC has re-launched the Safer Socialising Award in a simplified and more user-friendly format. The same principles about responsible alcohol retailing have been retained, but the categories of licensed premises have been simplified and the requirements codified to make it easier for licensees to apply for the award and simpler for BCRPs to assess and manage.
