Insurance Services

Action Against Business Crime, in conjunction with Todd and Cue Ltd, are pleased to offer partnerships an insurance package specifically designed to meet the protection and cost requirements of your BCRP. All partnerships that collect, process, distribute or otherwise manage sensitive personal data – data about a living person, must be notified to the Information Commissioner of the purposes for which they wish to process data and must have identified Data Controllers.

They have legal obligations defined in the Data Protection Act and these are set out in “A Data Controller’s Guide” on the Data Protection section of the AABC website. Data controllers and those employed by them to process data on their behalf (crime managers, collators, co-ordinators), need to be insured against the possibility of claims for wrongful acts carried out by them or their crime manager/collator/co-coordinator or for claims brought by aggrieved persons, whether they have merit or not.

The type of insurance cover required by the board of management (directors) and crime managers, collators or coordinators is professional indemnity (PI) insurance. They can also provide public liability (PL) insurance for those who require it and employers’ liability (EL), radio mast, office contents, laptops and partnership radios, where required. An outline of the cover is shown below and full details of the policy cover are available on request. The insurances attract very competitive rates as an AABC membership benefit.

PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY: Protection for board/committee members against incorrect advice or information committed in good faith arising out of neglect, error or omission.  Limit of Indemnity: £500,000, subject to a £250 policy excess. Annual premium: £304.50 for AABC member partnerships and £350.00 for non members of AABC, both premiums inclusive of insurance premium tax (IPT).

OPTIONAL EXTENSIONS:

PUBLIC LIABILITY: Cover for all sums which you become legally liable to pay for compensation for accidental injury to any person other than an employee, accidental damage to property not belonging to you or in your custody or control occurring in connection with the business of the board/committee.

Limit of indemnity: £2,000,000 subject to a £100 policy excess. Annual premium: £55.00 for AABC member partnerships and £65 for non members of AABC (both premiums inclusive of IPT).  Cover does not extend to cover liability arising out of radio masts/aerials. However T&C are able to extend cover at an additional premium of £28.00 inclusive of IPT per mast/aerial.

EMPLOYERS LIABILITY Cover for all sums which you become legally liable to pay for accidental injury to any employee if such injury arises out of their employment by you.

Limit of Indemnity: £10,000,000. Annual premium: £55.00 for AABC member partnerships and £65 for non members of AABC (both premiums inclusive of IPT).

Guidance and advice on databases and handling of personal and sensitive data

With the emergence of new databases with the ability to disseminate personal and sensitive data, AABC has sought advice and guidance from the Information Commissioner's Office to ensure that BCRPs are able to make reasoned and informed decisions concerning the purchase, operation and management of databases, including access by third party users. As new systems, which may not have sought the benefit of guidance from the ICO, present themselves to BCRPs as solutions to data sharing, it is important that they ascertain their suitability before committing themselves financially or facing difficulties of data compliance in the future.
