ABCP national conference booking page now open

The ABCP annual national conference will be taking place at the Hilton Hotel, Coventry on Thursday, 24th May, 2012. This is an excellent central venue, close to junction 2 of the M6 and M69 and with ample free parking for delegates. This is the only national event where partnerships, police, retailers and other colleagues can meet, network and find out what about developments in partnership operation and how the future will look.

This year the recently appointed Home Office minister. Lord Henley, will attend and speak and the new ACPO business crime lead, ACC Paul Broadbent will set out the new ACPO strategy for business crime, which ABCP and partnerships will have an important role in helping to deliver.  Also speaking will be the new chairman of ABCP, Allyn Thomas, a former ACC in Kent Police and previous ACPO business crime lead.

There are significant changes in how public authorities will deliver services in times of economic difficulty and the increasingly important role of partnerships is being recognised as one means which can assist hard pressed colleagues.

This is also the opportunity for partnerships to show what they have achieved in the last 12 months by entering one or more categories of the Partnership Excellence (PEX) Awards, which are once more supported by Todd & Cue with prizes for winning entries.

Click on the Events 2012 link on the left where you will find the programme, PEX entry forms and the booking link.

Town Team pilot bids launched

The Department of Communities and Local Government is looking to support twelve pilots with funding of up to £100,000 for each, depending on the amount sought by and their assessment of individual bids. They will be awarded to partnerships in England that demonstrate the best fit with the selection criteria. This will be paid through s31 un-ring-fenced revenue grant, paid directly to the relevant local authority. Each partnership will, therefore, need to identify an Accountable Body (local authority) to receive the grant, if they are not, themselves, a local authority. We expect local authorities in receipt of grant to work constructively with their communities, through their Town Team, in using funding. We will also be looking to provide other, non-financial support for the pilots More...

Sentencing Council launches new guideline for assault offences

The guideline aims to ensure a consistent and proportionate approach to sentencing, with convicted offenders receiving a sentence that reflects both the harm they have caused to their victim and their culpability. The guideline sets out that it is an aggravating factor to an assault where it is an 'offence committed against those working in the public sector or providing a service to the public'. The broad wording would encompass both those providing vital services to the public, such as emergency services personnel, but also those working, for example, as pub staff and shop workers. More...
