Important announcement to partnerships and stakeholders of ABCP

We announced recently that the Association of Business Crime Partnerships Limited (ABCP) was created following a joint board meeting between AABC and ATCM on the 3rd June. The new organisation has the support of both the Home Office and ACPO business crime.

Since then we have been working hard to put the foundations and planning in place to ensure that ABCP becomes the national representative body and the voice of business crime prevention reduction partnerships (BCRPs) throughout England and Wales.

What have we done so far?

A new board of directors of ABCP has recently been appointed with representatives from BCRPs and stakeholders to ensure transparency and real representation of BCRPs’ views and requirements on the board.

We recently held a strategic planning day attended by partnership representatives, stakeholders and town centre managers (TCMs). The objective of the day was to find out what kind of representative body members and stakeholders want. We were told that ABCP, as well as needing to provide membership benefits and services giving real value for money, should also provide:

  • * Clear, unequivocal and good quality standards for accreditation, qualifications, training and awards
  • * A national voice of BCRPs with great communication and networking opportunities in place
  • * A source of advice and guidance
  • * Sound administration and be financially viable

We have really listened to what we were told at the strategy day and the business planning process will be influenced by, and reflect, these views. The business plan is currently being finalised, as is the action plan for 2010/2011, which embraces feedback from the strategy day. The action plan has four key strategic priorities:

  • * Standards
  • * Membership
  • * Finance and administration
  • * Communications

We will be setting up working groups to identify what improvements and better ways of working are needed. If you would like to be involved in any of these working groups, please do contact me.

On membership, we will look at benefits, services and appropriate fee structures. Under standards, we will review accreditation, qualifications, training needs and awards. We will look at all aspects of communication including the website and newsletters, sponsorship and the national conference as well as our communication with external stakeholders. Finally, we need to scrutinise both finance and administration to ensure our ongoing financial viability and that effective administrative processes are in place.

We will summarise details of our business and action plans on our website soon, so you can see what we are doing. Some of the reviews detailed in the action plan will take longer than others and we will spread the work over the next 12 months. However, we will report back as soon as we are able, starting shortly with benefits, services and fees. I would welcome any comments, observations or feedback on any aspect of the planning process – at any stage. My contact details are below.

I personally am looking forward to working with you to make this happen. Together, we can make a real difference to providing the kind of leadership, representation and support you deserve.
