Change of chief executive at AABC

Mike Schuck has announced that as of the 1st January 2010 he will be standing down as CEO of AABC, after 6 years of service, in order to pursue a less hectic lifestyle. Mike, a former senior officer in the Metropolitan Police and Director BRC Retail Crime Policy, was instrumental in establishing AABC and its growth into a national body for business crime reduction partnerships. The board are pleased to announce that William Price, who is currently the company secretary of AABC, has agreed to become the chief executive and Mike will remain with AABC as operations director to assist William during the transition period and ensure the smooth running of the organisation.

Lord Dear said “I would like to put on record my personal thanks to Mike Schuck for all that he has done to establish AABC, and to support me in my role as Chairman. Mike has been closely involved with the concept of partnership working for many years, and for much longer than his association with AABC. Throughout all of that time he has been hugely influential. The success of the partnership model advanced by AABC owes a great debt of gratitude to him for his hard work, concern and skill and we all wish him well in his retirement from this field. He leaves behind a model that others can only seek to emulate.”

William’s appointment brings a wealth of experience to AABC having served over 30 years in the Metropolitan Police (Serious Crimes Branch, Anti-Terrorist Branch and Central London Major Investigation Team) and received a number of commendations and awards from the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Director of the FBI. He retired whilst a Detective Inspector based in central London. On leaving the Metropolitan Police he has been employed as a Senior Consultant investigating sensitive and complex enquiries on behalf of ‘blue chip’ companies in the retail and financial sectors. He became a Director of the London Capital Link Partnership, sitting on two of the three working parties; which include the Community Justice working group and Crime & Public Safety Risk Management group. He has also been a member of the Home Office Retail Crime Reduction Action Team, advising on Town Centre Crime Reduction Partnerships and co-author: Home Office Guide to Community Crime Reduction Partnerships. At the same time he was a member of JAG (Joint Action Group – Police, NCIS, NCS, RUC, Customs and Trading Standards) relating to organised crime.

In December 2003 William was appointed a Director of Hicom Business Solutions Ltd and went on to develop the National Business Information System (NBIS) as well as the National Staff Dishonesty Register (NSDR) retiring in December 2008.

Lord Dear said “William has worked with the BRC, Home Office, DTI and other agencies to develop and promote Town / City Centre Partnership working throughout the UK. His background and experience will be put to good use in taking forward the growth and challenges of AABC and BCRPs. William’s appointment has also been strengthened with other key appointments to the board, representing BCRPs and stakeholders from diverse business sectors adding a wealth of experience and support to the task of business crime management.

Guidance and advice on databases and handling of personal and sensitive data

With the emergence of new databases with the ability to disseminate personal and sensitive data, AABC has sought advice and guidance from the Information Commissioner's Office to ensure that BCRPs are able to make reasoned and informed decisions concerning the purchase, operation and management of databases, including access by third party users. As new systems, which may not have sought the benefit of guidance from the ICO, present themselves to BCRPs as solutions to data sharing, it is important that they ascertain their suitability before committing themselves financially or facing difficulties of data compliance in the future.
