First drink banning order in England and Wales
A banbury man has received the first drink banning order in England and Wales after repeatedly breaching the exclusion notice placed on him by Banbury pubwatch, a part of Cherwell Business Crime Partnership.
June Lynes, Cherwell co-ordinator said, 'This person has been a persistent trouble-maker in the town and has made life difficult and unpleasant for landlords, their staff and customers. We are delighted that the evidence we were able to produce about his behaviour has contributed to this excellent result.'
P.S. Bryan Percival, of the neighbourhood policing team said, 'The drink banning order imposed on Ryan Kane by Banbury magistrates is a milestone and gives crime partnerships and pub watch groups real power to deal with persistent offenders through the courts.
'The offender was the first in the country to be given a drink banning order and is banned from entering any part of a licensed public house or club, purchasing alcohol, drinking alcohol in a public place, being in possession of an open container of alcohol or being in any way disorderly whilst under the influence of alcohol in Banbury. Bans can be from 2 months to 2 years and he was given a full 2 year ban. A great deal of evidence gathering and statement taking detailing the impact on licensees, their staff and customers was undertaken by officers from the Banbury town neighbourhood policing team.
'This first ban strengthens the police, Cherwell crime partnership and Cherwell district council approach to dealing with alcohol fuelled anti-social behaviour, and should serve as a reminder to anyone that ignoring pub watch bans or persistent anti-social behaviour associated with alcohol can land them in court with a lengthy ban, and if there are any breaches, they are liable to immediate arrest.'
