AABC relaunches as independent not-for-profit organisation
Action Against Business Crime is now an independent not-for-profit organisation following its separation from the British Retail Consortium.
Mike Schuck, chief executive of AABC said, 'We are very pleased that AABC has achieved its independence. We were well served by the British Retail Consortium but they have decided that they are a campaigning organisation rather than an operational organisation. Following our separation we will continue to provide services to our members as we have previously. We have a number of projects in the pipeline which will help to enhance the status of partnership work. Both the police and the Home Office are working towards a greater understanding of the issues of retail crime and seeking to develop strategies which will assist both retailers and police to deal more effectively with the issues. AABC will be playing its part and seeking to involve BCRPs as these programmes develop.'
'We are also working with a university to develop a qualification for BCRP crime managers, which we hope will also be attractive to other organisations who are involved in dealing with business crime - police, community safety, security officers and others. I believe we now have an opportunity to make a real impression and to help raise the status of our hard-working partnerships around the country.'
