The chairman of ABCP, Lord Dear, opened the event and gave an overview of the work the organsiation had carried out during the year to strengthen its position and to cope with the economic and policing problems which were now a feature for ABCP partnerships.
Richard Barron, the chief executive of ABCP set out more of the work ABCP had carried out during the year including the new website and newsletter and the re-launch of the Safer Socialising Award and the Safer Business Award, which now has distinction and pass categories. The new Retail Mentor scheme for partnerships and retailers to comunicate with each other was an important feature in seeking to open up contacts between those parties. ABCP has also agreed to partner the Univrsity of Central Lancashire and other training providers to bring professional training to BCRP managers as well as police and other agencies.
ACC Allyn Rhomas, the ACPO lead on business crime gave delegates an update on the current police reductions which are happening to every police force in England and Wales and what the impact would be. He pointed out that BCRPs absorbed a good deal of low level crime, dealing with it outside the criminal justice system and that working with agencies such as ABCP was an effective way to deal with some of these issues. He told delegates that ACPO and the Home Office would shortly be agreeing a form of words to provide official recognition to the ABCP Safer Business Award accreditation as the national standard for BCRPs. He also mentioned the role of policing and crime commissioners and the opportunity this would give to BCRPs and businesses to have their voices heard.
There were presentations from Lewisham and Somerset West BCRPs as well as three workshops on marketing you partnership, cost-effective intelligence sharing and partnership finance.
