POST OFFICE LTD GRAPEVINE

Post Office Ltd is a part of the Royal Mail Group with approximately 12,000 branches.

Over 94% of the public live within a mile of a Post Office which makes it a unique organisation with a place in every community.  We have an estimated 41 million customer visits per week with an estimated 47 million transactions and we handle more cash than any other business.  Branches sell Post Office products and services in addition to handling mail and we are the Government’s supplier of welfare payments and benefits through the Post Office Card Account.

Post Office Grapevine is our intelligence sharing system and is a nationally respected intelligence gathering tool, assisting police and businesses. It enjoys the total support of all police forces in the UK and is now ready to welcome other stakeholders from the High Street.

Post Office staff, whether from post offices or their cash in transit (CIT) fleet, ring Grapevine® direct and share their suspicions about people or vehicles or unusual activity with the Grapevine® team. Where suspicious activity requires other post offices and cash in transit crews in the area to be alerted, this is done immediately by text.

Shared intelligence helps to reduce crime and increases confidence.  The data helps to identify meaningful crime trends and informed predictions about criminal activity can be made. It warns post office staff about all the latest scams and how to avoid them. Criminals know no boundaries and they are active in banks, betting offices, high street stores, the Post Office or any premises where the transfer of money or goods provides an oppoortunity for fraud, theft or robbery.
